Discover The Latest Diagnostic Blood Test For Prostate Cancer: Stockholm 3
Stockholm3 has been shown to detect clinically significant prostate cancers even when PSA levels are normal – it is considered one of the best prostate cancer tests available.
Who is it for?
- PSA levels equal or superior to 1.5 ng/ml (measured as part of the test)
- Individuals who have never had prostate cancer.
Stockholm3 combines genetic markers, proteins and clinical data in an algorithm to help identify clinically significant prostate cancer.
Unlike PSA testing, Stockholm3 can distinguish between aggressive and benign tumours.
- Higher accuracy compared to tests such as PSA, PSAD and prostate cancer risk calculator
-
Increased specificity reduces over testing and unnecessary biopsies by 50%.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can Stockholm3 determine the presence of cancer cells in the prostate?
A diagnosis of prostate cancer from cells can only be set from a histological analysis of the prostate tissue (biopsy). Stockholm3 provides a risk score from blood samples. This risk score is significantly better than PSA alone for selecting patients suitable for further urological work-up (i.e. an MRI scan as a next step to decide if a prostate biopsy should be taken).
What exactly does Stockholm3 analyse (blood biomarkers, clinical data, etc) and how this relates to prostate cancer risk?
The Stockholm3 test input information from protein analysis (5 different proteins are measured), from genetic testing (a polygenetic risk score off of SNP testing), and combined with clinical information (age, family history, previous biopsy history, use of 5-ARI medications) to provide a combined score, on the risk of having an aggressive prostate cancer.
How the test compares, in terms of accuracy and predictive value, with PSA alone?
The answer to this very much depends on how PSA is used (e.g. cut-off of 3, cut-off of 4, age adjusted values). Stockholm3 works already from PSA values of 1.5, and research uniformly shows that 30-50% of aggressive cancers can be found in the PSA range 1.5-3.0 – and these are cancers that would be missed with regular PSA testing. Very impressive sensitivity and specificity data for Stockholm3 have just recently been accepted for an upcoming publication, which clearly demonstrate the diagnostic benefits of using Stockholm3 as a complement to existing PSA testing.
