What Tests Are Included?
Breast Ultrasound (Under 40s)
A breast ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce detailed images of the breast tissue. It’s particularly useful for evaluating lumps or abnormalities and is often used alongside other imaging methods for a more complete assessment, especially in younger women or those with denser breast tissue.
Mammogram (Over 40s)
A mammogram is a specialised low-dose X-ray that allows doctors to detect early signs of breast cancer, often before any symptoms appear. It can reveal small changes in breast tissue, such as microcalcifications or masses, and is a key tool in routine breast screening for women over 40.
CEA (Carcinoembryonic Antigen)
CEA is a blood test that measures the level of a specific protein that may be elevated in certain types of cancer, including breast cancer. While not used for diagnosis alone, it can support ongoing monitoring or help guide further investigations when combined with imaging and other blood markers.
CA 15-3 (Cancer Antigen 15-3)
CA 15-3 is a tumour marker that may be elevated in breast cancer patients. It is primarily used to monitor response to treatment or detect potential recurrence in previously diagnosed individuals. When considered with other tests, it can offer valuable insight into breast health.
