The European Society of Cardiology and the International Olympic Committee recommend a cardiac screening for all individuals over 12 years of age taking part in competitive sport.
At least twelve people die each week in the UK from Sudden Death Syndrome. Many of these deaths are preventable, as they are usually caused by inherited forms of heart muscle disorder or an irregular heartbeat, which are easily detectable by the most widely used cardiac diagnostic tests.
