What is an echocardiogram?

An echocardiogram or ‘echo’ is a valuable ultrasound scan that produces a detailed view of your heart and nearby vessels. The echocardiogram can show how your heart is working, and enable doctors to diagnose and monitor cardiac abnormalities such as heart failure or congenital heart diseases.

How does it work?

A small probe is used to produce to send out ultrasound waves that bounce back and create an image of your heart on the screen.
